Christian Sigsgaard and Yuya Ito, both freshman at UT, won twice on Tuesday to advance to the main singles draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Ito and sophomore Harrison Scott also advanced to the main doubles draw as they won in the qualifying round of 16.

“Our guys did a really good job today, and for these guys to get through was very impressive,” said Texas head coach Michael Center.

Sigsgaard defeated No. 52 Andrew Watson of Memphis 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the qualifying singles round of 64. Ito also won in three sets, defeating No. 100 Catalin Mateas of Duke 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

In the round of 32 Sigsgaard defeated Florian Bragusi of Oklahoma 7-5, 6-2. Ito topped TCU’s Trevor Johnson 7-5 in the first set before Johnson retired. Sigsgaard and Ito will begin main draw action on Thursday.

In doubles action, Ito and Scott defeated Maxx Lipman and Elliott Orkin of Florida 6-3, 6-2. The doubles main draw competitions starts Thursday.

Scott, Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles each fell in the qualifying singles round of 64.

“Even with some of the matches we lost, I saw some good things out there, and it was encouraging. It’s only October, but we’re competing hard. The guys are excited about getting better,” coach Center said.
