Longhorn football had a losing season in 2016, and the men’s basketball team isn’t doing so well right now. But fear not Longhorn fans, the University of Texas is No. 1 in one category.
According to the Wall Street Journal, UT fans drink more beer, or at least buy more beer, than any in college football.
In six football games, Royal-Memorial Stadium sold 104,106 bottles of Miller Lite alone (tastes great, less filling?).
The report notes that schools such as Ohio State, Minnesota and Colorado are still compiling alcohol sales data and no Southeastern Conference school sells beer at football games.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone following this story since alcohol sales were given the greenlight in 2015. Sales increased by 70 percent in 2016 and Texas fans spent $701, 234 alone during the Notre Dame game (to their defense, it was an overtime game). Texas’ athletic department earned $1.3 million dollars in 2016 due to alcohol sales.
