WATCH: Texas releases video, ‘Getting to know Mohamed Bamba’

Posted June 30th, 2017

“Mohamed Bamba, power forward, Harlem, New York.”

The name of Texas’ prized 7-foot recruit has been known to hardcore college basketball fans and followers of recruiting for years, but it went viral earlier this week for reasons other than his prodigious skill.

His older brother’s accusatory rant on social media sparked a firestorm that led to Texas releasing a statement and the situation being featured on SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt’s “1 Big Thing.”

While the allegations that Bamba accepted cash and other gifts raised questions about his eligibility, plans for the power forward remain the same as they did a week ago. He intends to play, and the Longhorns hope that by doing so he raises the profile of the program.

This week, Texas has been releasing YouTube videos featuring each of the men’s basketball team’s new players. Despite the events of Wednesday and Thursday, Bamba’s video dropped Friday as the last in the series.

While the timing may seem a bit odd, it’s clear that things are business as usual for the Longhorns no matter what is happening on social media and elsewhere.
