Texas sophomores Sutton, Holmes help power USA past Puerto Rico in World Cup

Longhorns combined for 25 points in easy victory

Texas sophomores Alecia Sutton and Joyner Holmes each scored in double figures to lead the 2017 USA Women’s U19 World Cup Team past Puerto Rico, 104-46, in the FIBA U19 World Cup round of 16 on Wednesday in Cividale de Friuli, Italy.

Holmes charted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. She also blocked two shots in 15 minutes of play. Sutton scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, brought down three rebounds and dished out three assists in 16 minutes.

Next up for the U.S. (4-0) is a meeting with France (3-1) in Friday’s quarterfinals (time TBD).
