Twice as nice: No. 6 Texas’ Lexi Sun once again honored by the Big 12

Posted September 11th, 2017

For the second straight week, Texas outside hitter Lexi Sun has been named the Big 12’s Freshman of the Week.

Over three matches at Gregory Gym last week, Sun recorded 43 kills and a .330 hitting percentage. The California native also had 24 digs. Sun was joined on the Big 12’s honor roll by Kansas’ Madison Rigdon (Offensive Player of the Week) and Iowa State’s Alexis Conaway (Defensive Player of the Week).

Sun’s effort led UT to wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Denver. Texas was then beaten by Minnesota on Friday.

On Monday, Texas also fell a spot in the AVCA’s weekly poll. During the past month, No. 6 Texas has dropped from first to fourth to fifth to sixth in the AVCA’s poll. The Longhorns’ two losses this season are to No. 1 Minnesota and No. 3 Florida.

Texas (6-2) travels to Texas A&M on Wednesday for its only match this week.
