“What we were focusing on was cohesion and mentality, and I think that we definitely pounded that home with this group as a unit,” said head coach Angela Kelly. “There’s a lot more fight in us, which we’ve been working on bringing out.”

Hintzen, named preseason All-Big 12, finally broke through for Texas as she scored in the 76th minute to give Texas the lead.

Glenn scored ten minutes later to seal the win for Texas.

Goalkeeper Nicole Curry made three saves for Texas.

Despite not gaining the lead until the second half, the Longhorns dominated in scoring opportunities. They had a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks in addition to outshooting the Cardinals. Texas hit the post three times, including twice before the sixteen-minute mark. They also had two would-be goals cleared off the line by the Cardinals’ defense.

The Longhorns will start the season Friday as they host Rice at 7 p.m. at Myers Stadium.
