Texas Longhorns guard Shay Holle (10) gives out high-fives as she takes the court ahead of the Texas Longhorns' game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, Feb. 21, 2024. Texas won the game 77-72.

This winter, Texas senior Shay Holle excelled in both basketball and books.

The College Sports Communicators placed Holle on its Academic All-America Team on Tuesday. Since 1952, the CSC Academic All-America program has honored athletic and academic achievements in college sports.

Holle is just the second member of the Texas women's basketball team to earn this CSC honor. Jamie Carey was recognized in 2004.

On the court, Holle made 26 starts this past season and played 267 of a possible 280 minutes during UT's seven games in the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. The six-foot guard averaged 7.6 points per game and was named to the Big 12 all-defensive team.

An Austin native, Holle needed just three years to earn a finance degree from the McCombs School of Business. She is currently working on a master's degree in strategic communications.

Holle explained in October that summer school and the college credits she earned while attending Westlake High put her on a fast track to graduation. She added that graduating in three years was "definitely a load, but there's so many resources here. If you have a communication with (the professors) and just let them know what's going on, they're always usually really helpful. Coach (Vic) Schaefer knew my situation, too. ... It was definitely a challenging but awesome experience."

Holle announced last week that she will return to Texas for a fifth season of college basketball. She will be the longest-tenured Longhorn on the roster during the 2024-25 season.
