DeYona Gaston to end her college career with ex-Texas assistant Johnnie Harris at Auburn

Like the Texas Longhorns, DeYona Gaston is also heading to the Southeastern Conference.

Gaston announced on her Instagram account on Sunday that she will transfer to Auburn. A 6-foot-2 forward, Gaston spent the past four basketball seasons at Texas. She announced earlier this month that her final year of eligibility would be spent elsewhere.

The move to Auburn sets up a reunion between Gaston and Johnnie Harris, who is entering her fourth season as the Tigers' head coach. During Gaston's freshman year at Texas, Harris was her position coach and an associate head coach for the Longhorns. Harris was also a member of the Mississippi State coaching staff that originally signed Gaston during the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Gaston's decision also means that she will likely get to play her now-former team during the 2024-25 season. Texas is moving to the SEC this summer.

Over 106 games at Texas, Gaston averaged 9.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. She was a first-team honoree on the All-Big 12 team in 2023. This past season, she was honored as the Big 12 Sixth Player of the Year.

Gaston joins an Auburn team that went 20-12 this past season. Auburn's season ended with its first NCAA Tournament appearance under Harris.
